Since it has been thousands of years since the last major war, Kuat production has slowed very much, but it still produces a large amount of ships in many varieties. The decisions made by Senators are almost always influenced by the advice of the directorate families, which does not always coincide with the interests of the planet itself. Once you have that, you can do the puzzle. To figure out the solution for the correct starship parts, you only need the 1 datapad that tells you what the stable part is. The directorate also serves as a large deciding factor in the political positions of Kuati – Senators, representatives, and governors are chosen by a vote within the familieis as to which candidate would advocate best for the company as well as the planet, and the candidates are almost always chosen from one of the families (although Kuat descendents rarely run for Senator, preferring to take a corporate position instead). I posted this in the KDY PSA thread and a couple people replied noting they hadn't heard it before, so I figured it wasn't as well known. The directorate makes all executive decisions: approving new ship designs, creating or absorbing subsidiaries, and moving in new directions with the company.
All Principal Directors of Kuat Drive Yards are from the Kuat family line, while the rest of the Directorate is made up of representatives from each of the other nine families, enabling their interests to be ostensibly balanced, though Kuat always holds a slight advantage thanks to its seniority and power.
